Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
At Valencia Park Elementary, our School-Wide Discipline Plan is designed to ensure a safe, supportive environment where teachers can teach and students can learn. Our goal is to help every child build self-esteem, make positive choices, and take responsibility for their actions. We believe discipline is best taught through relationships, consistency, and care — and we welcome parents as active partners in this work.
Our schoolwide expectations are captured in the acronym Be a LION:
L – Lead Responsibly
I – Interact Respectfully
O – Overly Ready
N – Navigate Safely
These expectations are explicitly taught, modeled, and reinforced throughout the school year. Teachers use them for encouragement, corrective feedback, and recognition to help students grow into confident, capable leaders.
PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) is the foundation of this approach. It emphasizes proactive, positive behavior supports rather than punishment. All Valencia Park staff have received professional development in PBIS, and our schoolwide expectations are reinforced daily—in classrooms, on the playground, and during schoolwide assemblies led by our principal.
