Dear Valencia Park Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I am very excited to start my first year as principal of Valencia Park Elementary School. Valencia Park has a rich history and track record of innovation and individualized learning in a safe and nurturing environment. Our school has received numerous accolades including the Gold Ribbon Award, Title I Academic Achievement Award, Apple Distinguished School, Golden Bell Award, Common Sense Media Digital Citizenship Certification, California Business for Education Excellence Honor Roll School, and a Cotsen Art of Teaching School. It is an incredible honor to continue this legacy of educational excellence at Valencia Park School and I look forward to partnering with you to provide a positive experience for our students.
This year, we will continue to enhance the level of innovation through our Visible Innovation Program by implementing 1:1 iPads in Kindergarten through 6th grade. Our goal is to integrate technology in a way that facilitates high levels of engagement, critical thinking, perseverance, creative problem solving, communication and collaboration. Above all, we hope to create a positive and nurturing learning environment where students can explore their strengths and passions, develop confidence to take risks and learn from their mistakes, and feel empowered to make a difference in their world.
There are a few staffing changes that I would like to share with you. First, we bid farewell and good luck to Mrs. Escaleras-Nappi as she will be serving as assistant principal of Orangethorpe Elementary School and Sunset Lane Elementary School this year. We extend a warm welcome to our new assistant principal, Dr. Rebecca Acosta. In her 13 years of education, Dr. Acosta has taught in grades K, 3, 4, 5, and 6 and served as an interventions teacher and coach. She holds two master's degrees in instruction and administration and a doctorate in education. She is a dedicated educator and looks forward to serving the Valencia Park school community.
A strong partnership between the school, home, and community is crucial to the success of our students. With the support of our dynamic school staff, engaged parent community, and supportive community partnerships, I am confident that our students will have a memorable year of learning and growth at Valencia Park.
